Abrau-Durso may start production of sparkling wines in China

MOSCOW, Nov 26 (PRIME) -- Russian winery Abrau-Durso is in negotiations with Chinese companies on investment in production of light sparkling wines in China, business ombudsman Boris Titov told PRIME on Monday.

“The Chinese partners expressed active interest in the stand of Russian wine at the recent import exhibition in Shanghai, including products of Abrau-Durso. Their retailers want to buy the products. Our presence at the Chinese market is insignificant today, it comes from selective batches supplied to large companies, and it is not a systemic business. They are ready to buy larger amounts now,” he said.

“The Chinese side is talking about investing in production of wines and light sparkling wines (in the country).”

He said that estimating possible export volumes is difficult, but ensuring supply in retail chains even in a small Chinese region requires millions of bottles. “We will start exports to selected regions of China,” he said.
